Spend your summer discovering France through a dynamic four-week study abroad program in Aix-en-Provence and Paris. Open to all undergraduate students, this immersive experience combines the charm of southern France with the global energy of Paris for a truly transformative academic and cultural journey. You will take a course in Francophone cultures and civilizations, then personalize your experience by choosing a second course in biology, international studies, or French language, with options for all skill levels. From café-lined streets to world-class museums, this program offers an unforgettable mix of learning, adventure, and personal growth in the heart of France.

Program Course Offerings:

  • FRT 2510: Honors Francophone Cultures & Civilizations (3 credits) - *Required for all participants*
  • FRE 1120/1121: Honors Beginning French Language and Culture I or II (4 credits)
  • FRE 2220/2221: Honors Intermediate French Language and Culture I or II (4 credits)
  • FRE 3400/3401: Honors Advanced French Language and Culture I or Advanced French Language & Culture 2 (3 credits)
  • INR 3102: Honors American Foreign Policy (3 credits)
  • BSC 4957: Biology Study Abroad: Ecology of the Mediterranean (3 credits)

Course Eligibility & Requirements:

Students participating on the program are required to take FRT 2510 and one of the other courses offered (6-7 credits total)

FRT 2510- Counts as General Education Core Humanities B and as an elective for the Minor Concentration in French. May count for the Concentration in International Studies (Europe).Ìý

Important Notice: Before departure, students are required to complete one credit of online coursework for FRT 2510 through Canvas. These readings and assignments must be completed remotely between May 15 and May 22, 2026. Students should ensure they are available and prepared to dedicate time that week to successfully complete all required online work.

Location

Paris, France’s vibrant capital, blends timeless elegance with modern creativity. During three unforgettable days, students will experience the city’s iconic art, architecture, and café culture while gaining insight into how Paris continues to shape global ideas and trends. Afterward, students will settle in Aix-en-Provence, a sun-soaked university town in the heart of southern France celebrated for its artistic heritage, lively markets, and relaxed Mediterranean rhythm. Known as the home of painter Paul Cézanne, Aix inspires creativity at every corner, from its tree-lined boulevards and fountains to its nearby vineyards and lavender fields. This welcoming city offers the perfect setting for deeper cultural immersion, reflection, and discovery amid the beauty of Provence.

Housing

Students will stay in twin occupancy rooms at a centrally located hostel in Paris, with daily breakfast and Wi-Fi included. In Aix-en-Provence, accommodations will be homestays with local hosts, providing daily breakfast, five evening meals per week, Wi-Fi access, and laundry services for a comfortable and authentic living experience.

Travel Documentation, Health, and Safety

Passport and Travel Documentation

  • A valid passport is required for all international travel. You need a passport to board an international flight and to enter the country. Passport cards will not be accepted as form of I.D. You may be denied boarding if you travel with a passport that appears damaged or altered.

  • Some countries require that your passport be valid at least six months beyond the dates of your trip. Some airlines will not allow you to board if this requirement is not met. Check the to learn about entry and exit requirements for the country or countries in which you are traveling. Ìý
  • If you are applying for a passport for the first time, you need to renew your passport, or you have any other passport questions, you can find information on the website. In addition, several U.S. Embassies and Consulates provide information to assist applicants in collecting the documentation needed. For a list of Embassies, please visit .
  • Non-U.S. Citizens may need additional travel documentation. If you are not a U.S. citizen, you should research the study abroad program destination and your home country to determine if a visa or additional travel documentation is required.

International Health Insurance

All FAU students participating on an FAU Faculty-led Program will be registered in international health and travel insurance coverage through Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI). This mandatory insurance ensures that students have access to medical and emergency support services while abroad. This is included in the program cost. The 2026 Coverage plan will be available in January 2026. Participants can review the current 2025 plan HERE for reference.

Pre-departure Orientation and Meetings

All students must attend pre-departure sessions prior to study abroad. Education Abroad and your program faculty leaders will provide you with further details pertaining to dates, times, and location in the semester before your program.Ìý

1) Mandatory pre-departure orientation hosted by the Education Abroad office. This session will cover general international travel related topics such as health, safety, insurance, and travel tips.Ìý
2) Mandatory pre-departure meeting hosted by program faculty leader. This session will cover program and location specific information such as arrival, expectations, itinerary, and course overview.
